Fremantle second year player Lachie Weller told media on Monday that his work with development coach Anthony Rock has helped him focus on refining his game.
Rock was renowned as a tough-nosed, “in and under” player in his 222 game AFL career, and Weller said he has enjoyed learning from his experience.
“He’s (Rock) got a lot of AFL experience, so I’m feeding a lot off him,” Weller said of Rock.
“He was a really hard inside player back into the day.
“He’s been working more with my touch and bodywork.”
Increased emphasis on becoming an inside player has meant putting on some size for Weller, but he said it putting on weight was a diligent process.
“That’s a big focus for young players coming through the door,” he said.
“I tried to put on a bit of weight at the start, but not too much.
“It’s hard, it’s a slow process, and you can't put the weight on really quickly.
While a changed of position could be on the cards for Weller, a change of scenery is the furthest thing from the young midfielders mind, the Tasmanian well and truly happy in WA.
“I’m really enjoying it,” he said.
“I’ve got the girlfriend over here now.
“I’m really happy, it’s a great club and I want to play my whole career here.
While there was speculation during the off season that a move back east was possible, Weller said his re-signing with Freo was never in doubt.
“I just got away, enjoyed my holiday and then got into signing the contract,” he said.
