Luke Jackson had no issues missing out on a Glendinning-Allan Medal on a countback, with the ruck / forward saying Lachie Schultz was the clear best on ground in Fremantle’s 101-point RAC Derby win at Optus Stadium on Saturday night.

Both Jackson and Schultz were tied with seven votes each in the voting, with Schultz crowned the winner as he had more three-vote games.

Schultz fired up forward with five goals while Jackson was again dominant around the ground to lead all players with six clearances.

It’s Schultz’s second Glendinning-Allan Medal after also winning the award in round three of the 2022 season.

“Lachie deserved that 100 per cent. He had five goals. It was an outstanding game and I’m just happy we got the win,” Jackson said.

“When ‘Shoota’ is up and firing, it definitely lifts the whole group. We can really feel it. He played great along with some other small forwards tonight.

“It’s his energy and the toughness he brings. I saw that he’s leading (the AFL) for forward 50 tackles. It definitely lifts the group and you can feel the energy lift when he’s doing that.”

Eagles ruck Bailey Williams had 30 hitouts to Jackson’s 26, however it was Jackson who was the dominant player around the ground.

“It was a good battle against Bailey Williams, he’s a good up and coming player,” Jackson said.

“He’s pretty athletic. I just wanted to play to my strengths and try and get around the ground.

“I feel like Andy (Brayshaw) and Caleb (Serong) and those boys they did what they usually do, they’re tough inside.”

Jackson said Fremantle would need a similar team performance to challenge Port Adelaide next Sunday at Optus Stadium for the Club's annual Retro Round.

“We want to come out with a lot of energy (against Port Adelaide),” Jackson said.

“When we play our best footy like (tonight) we can match it with anyone. It’s just about the consistency.”
