Senior coach Ross Lyon has confirmed the plans for Harley Benell’s first game of football in more than a year.
The former no.2 draft pick last featured in round one of the 2016 WAFL season and is expected to make his return on Saturday against East Perth at Leederville Oval.
Bennell, who kicked 92 goals during 81 games for Gold Coast between 2011 and 2015, is yet to play for Fremantle since his arrival in the 2015 trade period due to multiple calf injuries.
In an interview on Seven News on Tuesday night, Lyon said Bennell would play but is expected to have limited game time.
“It’s really pleasing, but we don’t expect a huge amount,” Lyon said.
“We know everyone will get there and watch him but for Harley, who has persisted and persevered and showed good resilience, it’s a step in the right direction.
“He’ll only play about 60 minutes but it’s a good start.”
