Justin Longmuir believes the talented ruck stocks of both sides will play a major part in the outcome of Walyalup’s Sir Doug Nicholls Round clash with Narrm at the MCG on Saturday.

Sean Darcy and Luke Jackson will battle against Narrm talls Max Gawn and Brodie Grundy, as Jackson prepares to play against his former side for the first time since joining Walyalup in the off-season.

Longmuir said the recent form of Darcy and Jackson will set them up well for the challenge, with the pair splitting ruck and forward duties for Walyalup.

“It will be big, Narrm play through their talls a lot and Gawn and Grundy are a part of that,” Longmuir told 7 News.

“Our boys are going to have to be on their game, but (Darcy and Jackson) are in good form and ready for a test like this.

“It will be a good challenge, but I think they are up for it. I think it will be a reasonably big contest in relation to the outcome of the game.”

Longmuir believed Jackson was not the type to feel anxious ahead of playing against his old team, instead pointing to his preparation as a key to his recent consistency.

Jackson played 52 games with Narrm over a span of three seasons, which featured a standout performance in the 2021 Grand Final at Optus Stadium.

Since arriving west, Jackson has averaged more than 13 disposals and four tackles per game, while also booting 12 goals in the first 10 games of the season.

“He’s embraced all challenges as they have come this year,” Longmuir said.

“Most people can get a little bit of anxiety around playing their old club the first time around, but it doesn’t seem to worry him too much these sorts of things.

“He approaches his footy in a really consistent matter and he’s in good form, so he should be excited about the challenge.”

Second-year forward Jye Amiss has looked a dangerous threat up forward kicking 16 goals for Walyalup so far this season, with multiple goals coming against West Coast, Gold Coast, Hawthorn, Sydney and Geelong.

“He’s forming a really strong part of a well-functioning forwardline at the minute,” Longmuir said.

“He’s working really well with ‘Jacko’ and JT (Josh Treacy) as tall forwards and he’s been able to hit the scoreboard and contribute in different ways.

“He has improved from the start of the year, and he will continue to improve as the years unfold.”
