Jordan Clark has joined the call from Walyalup fans to acknowledge the impressive season from Jye Amiss, who starred in Walyalup’s 29-point win against Geelong at Optus Stadium on Saturday.
The 19-year-old is yet to earn a NAB AFL rising star nomination despite having kicked three more goals than any other nominated player with 16 from 10 rounds.
Walyalup have now won three straight games and Amiss has kicked multiple goals in each, with three against Hawthorn, two against Sydney and three against Geelong.
“(A nomination) would have to be coming,” Clark said.
“I’ve been thinking about this from week to week.
“He’s an unflappable character, even if he doesn’t get one it won’t bother him at all.
“I think he’s due! It would be good to see him get one.”
Senior Coach Justin Longmuir has called for consistency from his players all season, and Amiss has been the definition of that with a major in each of his past nine appearances.
Amiss said post-game that consistency had been his focus.
“I thought I competed well,” Amiss said.
“I just want to keep building and learning and try new stuff each week, working with Jaymie Graham, the coaching staff and doing everything I can do to get better. Just keep trying my best.
“You want to build consistency, you want to build really good connection with the forward group. I think the last couple of weeks, we’re really starting to gel and string games together.”
