New recruits Brandon Matera and Nathan Wilson were revealed to Fremantle members for the first time at the club's Annual Members Meeting on Wednesday night at Subiaco Oval.
While Wilson commences training at his new club on 4 December, Matera told the crowd about his head start as a Freo Docker.
"I came back a week earlier to get around the younger guys and also to get used to the new facility, which is really massive," Matera said.
Wilson and Matera have similair stories of both being drafted as 17-year-olds to start-up clubs in Greater Western Sydney and Gold Coast respectively.
The pair both agreed that the new facility at Cockburn is a stark contrast to the humble beginnings of the initial facilities they encountered at their previous clubs.
"When I first went to the Giants we were in an RSL club in Rooty Hill and I didn’t really know what was going on," Wilson said.
"Kevin Sheedy was the coach back then and he loves that RSL environment."
Gold Coast have recently upgraded their facilities but Matera shared the same experience as Wilson when he first arrived at the Suns.
"When I first got to the Gold Coast it was just a couple of demountables and a big green shed," Matera said.
"When I went through Freo’s facility, it was mindblowing.
"We’re lucky to be in there and it will make us better players."
The thought of playing in front of family and friends is another thing the new recruits are looking forward to in 2018.
"To be back home and, hopefully, every second week play at Perth Stadium in front of family and friends, we can’t wait," Wilson said.
