Key forward Jye Amiss is starting to play like he belongs at AFL level just seven games into his career, according to forward teammate Michael Frederick.

Amiss set a new career-best with three goals in Fremantle’s Gather Round win against Gold Coast, bringing his career tally to 10.

He had 10 contested possessions from his 12 disposals and moved up the ground to deliver four inside 50s.

Crucially, he also had two goal assists as Fremantle’s forwardline responded to a slow start to the season to put 100 points on the scoreboard.

Frederick credited Amiss’ pack mark and goal from a tight angle in the final term for getting Freo over the line in the comeback win.

“Having Jye play the way he did (against Gold Coast) was so good,” Frederick told SEN WA.

“He stepped up late in the game as well to kick a tough set shot and get the boys going, it shows how far he’s come.”

Plan ahead for Friday night footy!

Importantly, Frederick said Amiss understands he has a lot of work ahead of him if he wants to become one of the AFL’s most formidable forwards.

“He’s still young, like a lot of our boys, and he has a lot of work to do,” Frederick said.

“Jye said to me yesterday that he feels comfortable now and knows the game plan and understands how big his role is as a key forward and the responsibility that comes with it.

“Finding that consistency in his game is the main thing and closing the gap between good and bad games.

“He’ll start to do that once he’s played a bit more. He hasn’t played 10 games yet, he’s got a lot of good footy ahead of him which is going to be awesome to see.”

Frederick had six score involvements in his return to the team after missing a game due to an eye injury sustained in the RAC Derby.

He said he was unable to train for much of his time in Adelaide, missing Freo’s round four clash with the Crows.

“My eye is better now, from the Derby I got poked and my eye was actually inflamed and bleeding,” Frederick said.

“I wasn’t allowed to do much at all in terms of weights or anything that would get my heart rate up, otherwise my eye would bleed on the inside.

“I had a pretty cruisy week leading into the Crows game and the was introduced into training after I caught up with an eye specialist in Adelaide that gave me the all clear.

“I’m definitely better now.”
