Fremantle fans will have the chance to get to Optus Stadium in style for this Sunday’s RAC Derby, with Maarli Swan Tours offering a cruise along the Derbal Yerrigan (Swan River) to the game.
The tours are run by former Freo Docker Des Headland, and they offer both a chance to learn about the significance of the river while hearing from some of the greats to play in the AFL.
Two legends of the game in Dale Kickett and David Wirrpanda headline the tour for the Derby clash, and Headland says fans will relish the chance to interact with their heroes over the two hour journey.
“We are a cultural tourism business but we also really want to cater to the Fremantle fans for our gameday events,” Headland said.
“This is a great chance to engage with past players in a social and intimate setting while cruising on the Derbal Yerrigan.
“Each week we will have players from both teams, and who better to provide a build-up for a Derby than Dale Kickett, who is an all-time legend at Freo, and David Wirrpanda from the West Coast side.
“They’re great people, great players with stories to tell, and I know the supporters will get plenty out of it.”
The two-hour tour is the perfect way to get to the game like a VIP, starting a Barrack Street jetty, you will be treated to beer, wine, spirits, canapes and amazing views of the river before disembarking right at Optus Stadium.
“It’s a unique way to get to the ground,” Headland said.
“This isn’t like other pre-game functions, where there’s a Q&A and they’re gone, this is a chance to mingle with fellow Freo fans and have a yarn about footy with some of the legends of the game.”
