Forward recruit Josh Corbett made the decision to come to Fremantle with the hopes of breaking into the Club’s best 22, but he knows it won’t be easy.

The 190cm Corbett is seen as a potential replacement for Griffin Logue in the third-tall forward role, however the former Gold Coast Sun can see talent wherever he looks up front for Freo.

At training on Monday, he was joined in the forward line group with the likes of Nat Fyfe, Matt Taberner, Luke Jackson, Jye Amiss and Josh Treacy and the 26-year-old welcomed the competition.

“I always find it funny at football clubs that the people you’re closest with are the ones you’re fighting for spots with at the same time,” Corbett said.

“That’s the good thing about there being no egos here, everyone is happy to help and educate people at the same time.

“I’m here to play AFL football, the same as everybody on the list. At the end of the day, 22 or 23, it’s hard to get 40 to go into that.

“I believe in my ability to play AFL football but I understand that it’s no guarantee, so I’m going to work my bum off to try and get in there, the same as all the other forwards to get that opportunity.”

Corbett has already seen signs that Jackson would be a special player at Fremantle.

“Some of the stuff he can do is pretty crazy for a man of his height,” Corbett said.

“Sometimes he can play that small crumbing role and when he needs to stand tall, he’s impressive at doing that as well.

“Seeing Fyfe in the flesh, his work rate and his ability to attack the contest is really impressive. I’m really looking forward to learning off those boys.”
