Nat Fyfe is continuing to progress in his recovery from a hamstring injury while Darcy Tucker has sustained a meniscus knee injury, according to Executive General Manager of Football Operations Peter Bell.
Fyfe last played for Fremantle in round 23 against GWS but injured his hamstring in his right leg at training during the bye week leading into finals.
While there are hopes Fyfe can play again this year if Fremantle advance through the AFL Finals, Bell said there was no timeline on his return.
“Nathan’s going really well,” Bell said.
“Everyone will want us to put a timeline on Nat, which unfortunately we’re unable to do, but the positive is he’s continuing to improve every day.”
Tucker (knee) and Karl Worner (ankle) both sustained injuries in Peel’s clash with Swan Districts on Sunday, however the injury to Tucker is more serious with the rest of his season in doubt.
“It’s bad news for Darcy, who picked up the injury in the first couple of minutes,” Bell said.
“He hurt the meniscus in his knee, so we’re just working through the possibilities of surgical intervention, so it’s a bit of bad luck for Darcy.
“Karl tweaked his ankle late. He was walking around and was really bullish about being available this week, so there’s good news there.”
Matthew Johnson was a late withdrawal for the WAFL clash as he continues to recover from an illness.
“Johnno has been a bit ill of late and struggling to shake a virus,” Bell said.
“He was also a little bit sore so we thought we would give him the weekend off, manage him through that and he should bounce as a result of it this week.”
Bell said key forward Matt Taberner had recovered well from his football return, kicking 2.2 off limited minutes against Swan Districts.
“He pulled up really well, it was great to see Tabs out there and he worked really hard on restricted minutes,” Bell said.
“We’ll see what the week looks like, but we expect him to take part in (Wednesday’s) main training as well.”
