Fremantle have confirmed Travis Colyer has inked a new one-year extension, with the 30-year-old signing on for the 2023 season.

Colyer has enjoyed strong continuity at Fremantle, playing every game of the home and away season in 2021 and has only missed one game so far this season due to health and safety protocols.

Finishing in the top ten of last year’s Fairest and Best, Colyer will enter his fifth season at Freo in 2023, relishing a rotating role between half-forward and the wing.

Fremantle’s Head of Player Personnel David Walls said the impact of Colyer on and off the field was clearly felt at the Club, with the speedy forward thriving in his role under Senior Coach Justin Longmuir.

“He seems to be getting better with age and has been in career-best form the last two years,” Walls said.

“It’s also great to have him around from a leadership point of view, he is loved by all at the Club, and he is having a massive influence in leading those young forwards like Michael Frederick and Liam Henry.

“He has got his body right and his speed is as good as ever, he hasn’t lost any of that, and I think he is playing a really clearly defined role under Justin and the coaching group.”

Colyer said he was excited to continue his time in purple, and to see his hard work rewarded with another deal.

“Fundamentally, it feels like I'm performing and playing some of the better footy that I've played probably throughout my career and finding a role has been great,” Colyer said.

“I think it’s my 14th year in the system, and you start to reflect on where you've come from and where you’re going…and this is a great sort of nod that the hard work is really paying off.

“I'm just really enjoying playing football and I think that’s being reflected in my performances, and not overly putting too much expectation and pressure on myself to perform.

“I’m genuinely just pumped to be a part of it, it’s a pretty special time to be at Freo.”

Colyer felt his teammates hold a ‘genuine desire’ to achieve and is loving being part of a connected group at Fremantle.

“My desire to continue stems from wanting to give back and to be a part of this group, because I can really see where it's going and what Justin and the coaches are building,” Colyer said.

“I think there's just a real genuine care among the playing group and we have guys that just wanting to see their teammates be at their best.

“There is a genuine desire amongst the group to achieve bigger and better things each week.”
