It was an AFLW training session like no other on Tuesday evening as Fremantle’s AFLW players returned for a mid-winter training session as they kicked off their preparations for Season 7 in the NAB AFL Women’s Competition.

With the season moved forward by almost five months to August, Fremantle are now preparing for playing football away from the blistering hot summer days at Fremantle Oval.

With rain throughout the session, it gave Freo a chance to hone their wet weather skills and Vice Captain Ange Stannett said the group was eager to get started.

“We're really excited to be back,” Stannett said.

“It's just nice to be with the whole group again, get to know the new staff that are around the place and have a bit of a kick of the footy.

“We're used to running around in 35 degree heat, so this will certainly be a change. It’s nice to get the first session out of the way and get the skills working around the wet weather footy.”

Fremantle have made the last four finals series but haven’t made it past the Preliminary Finals stage.

The defender said Fremantle’s High Performance team were working on ways to ensure the team are playing their best footy at the end of the season.

“Our build up is going to be a little bit different, we want to be peaking come finals,” Stannett said.

“In terms of our High Performance team, they're going to make sure programming wise we're red hot to go at the pointy end of the season.

“We didn't have as long of a build-up coming into pre-season. They wanted us having a bit of a de-load.”

After being one of the youngest teams earlier in the year, Fremantle are once again set to field a youthful line-up in Season 7

“We had 11 debutants last season and a lot of them gained some really awesome experience,” Stannett said.

“This season is going to be no different. We're looking forward to them growing into their own roles and themselves a little more as well.”
