Fremantle has unveiled the ‘Antoni Grover Squad’ as their newest addition to the Club’s Next Generation Academy male squads, powered by Tyrepower.
Designed for players in their 17th year of age, the Antoni Grover Squad focuses on transitioning players from community level participation to State level competence.
Fremantle now have five key NGA squads individualised for every age group, with the Stephen Hill Squad previously catering for 17’s and 18’s now just focusing on the oldest group of players.
Each squad is named after some of the Club’s best Aboriginal and multicultural players.
This includes the Peter Bell Squad (14’s), Roger Hayden Squad (15’s), Tendai Mzungu Squad (16’s), Antoni Grover Squad (17’s) and finally, the Stephen Hill Squad (18’s).
Having played over 200 games for Fremantle and being a life member of the Club, Grover said the acknowledgement was an honour.
“To have one of Fremantle’s NGA squads named after myself is an honour. It was actually quite unexpected, so I do appreciate the acknowledgment from the Club,” Grover said.
“Obviously, it’s terrific to be named alongside some other Fremantle greats, but more importantly it’s great that the Club is acknowledging the contribution of former Fremantle players.”
Grover has already been assisting with coaching the Peter Bell and Roger Hayden squads in 2022 and spoke about how he’s enjoyed ‘giving back’ to some of the participants in the program.
“I’ve enjoyed what I’d call giving back to the next generation of aspiring footballers,” Grover said.
“The goal of the program is to provide another layer of education to these young men both on and off the field by sharing my own personal experiences and knowledge of the game.
“It is also about encouraging all those who are involved with the academy to stay active and be involved in any sport they have a passion for.”

The Antoni Grover squad will focus on three key skill areas including;
- Basic skill execution under high-level pressure
- Understanding of the mental and physical requirements for a player entering State League and AFL systems
- Goal setting and accountability to set and implement individual skill development plans
