Throughout the 20 years of the Starlight Purple Haze game, proudly presented by South32, Fremantle have had the pleasure of getting to know many beautiful children through the Starlight Children's Foundation.
Bringing these kids in and being able to put a smile on their faces means the world to the Club.
In 2016, and then again in 2018 we welcomed Starlight Star Lucas Snow.
Lucas is a very brave young Freo fan who spent time at the club, including a training session he was invited to on his 7th birthday where Matt De Boer brought him out a birthday cake and he got to celebrate with the players.
We spoke to a now 13-year old Lucas about his experience and how he is going now.
Tell us about yourself! Name, where you’re from, what your hobbies and interests are.
My name is Lucas Snow. I live on a farm in Wickepin WA with my mum and dad and three dogs. My hobbies are riding dirt bikes, playing video games, tennis. My interests are farming and following the Freo Dockers.
Tell us a little bit about your involvement in a previous Purple Haze match. When was it? Who did Freo play and did they win? What were the fun things you got to do? Did you get to meet anyone special?
I was the Starlight Child in 2016. I met lots of players and the coach and also an umpire. Everyone I met was special. I even had my photo taken with the team and got to do a press conference with Aaron Sandilands. Freo played the Gold Coast Suns. Unfortunately, we didn’t win the game.
What did being involved in Purple Haze mean to you?
It made me feel really good, like I was a part of the team. It helped take my mind off my cancer treatment.
Who was your favourite player then, and who is your favourite player now?
My favourite player then was Aaron Sandilands. My favourite player now is Caleb Serong.
