North Ryde Dockers do premiership double
In blustery conditions, a sea of purple and plenty of support was on hand at Sydney’s Macquarie University Sports Grounds to cheer on the kids from the North Ry
The Under 11’s, under the guidance of Michael Stern, Tony Cole and Troy Thompson stormed through the season with 14 wins under their belt to be the first team through to the Grand Final.
Likewise, the Under 13’s with Trevor Mitchell and Stu Goldfinch at the helm asserted their dominance in a closely fought competition.
With determination in their eyes, fire in their bellies and focussed minds, the two teams put on a fantastic display of Australian Rules Football which resulted in convincing Grand Final wins for both.
The young Dockers realised that all their hard work and efforts throughout the year had finally paid dividends.
A season which began in uncertainty had come to the best possible conclusion. With the sounding of the final siren the dreams and hopes of their opponents were ended, whilst their own energy and emotions were released.
Not to be forgotten, the Under 16 team after securing a Minor Premiership narrowly missed an opportunity to make it a trifecta after being knocked out in the Preliminary Final.
Ironically, a week prior to season start a shortage of players threatened to see these three teams disbanded.
Through determination, hard work, and borrowing of players from younger grades, these teams were able to take to the park and perform week after week.
