Liam Henry is yet to have the chance to show his true ability at AFL level, according to senior coach Justin Longmuir.
Limited to three games in 2020 after arriving at Fremantle with a knee injury, Henry played 17 games in 2021 mostly as a small forward with stints on the wing.
The 20-year-old’s work in the off-season has allowed Longmuir to consider a more permanent role for Henry on the wing.
“He’s reasonably untapped at the moment and we want to get him up the ground to play to his strengths,” Longmuir told TAB Radio.
“One thing that Liam’s done off his own bat, he’s made real inroads in the off-season, he’s been able to improve his fitness levels from when he first came to the Club and that’s opened up a lot of scope for him to be able to play up the ground and on the wing and play to his strengths up there."
Longmuir expects Henry to make the most of his opportunities after building his strength and fitness.
“He was just so underdone in so many ways when he came to the Club," Longmuir said.
"He was obviously high in talent but coming off some really serious injuries and had a really low fitness base and strength base when he first arrived.
“He’s really worked hard in the off-season and over the years to strengthen his body and become a really good aerobic athlete.
“I’m really excited about what he can produce up the ground.”
