Dedicated Fremantle fans showed their support before the big game on Saturday night, marching their way from Transit Bar at Crown Perth to Optus Stadium.

The purple army consisting of around 200 fans, cheered on their team, waving flags and banners in the hope of creating what will become a pre-game ritual.

Fremantle mascots Johnny and Jenny Docker led the cheer squad on their 300m journey while fans sang to an up tempo version of the club song played by funk band Junkadelic.

Sarah Bridgman, who has been part of the cheer squad since the late 90s, said the atmosphere on Saturday night was phenomenal.

“As a group the cheering was really good. The march beforehand made us more cohesive than what we normally would be,” she said.

“I think a lot of people stopped and stared as we marched our way over to the stadium. It was definitely better than taking the bus or train.”

Claiming the highlight of her cheer squad participation was making new friends, Bridgman compared the cheer squad to the likes of a family.

“Meeting new people with common interests and building that kind of family around a sport and a team that you enjoy watching is probably the best part.”

When asked if she would do the pre-match march again, without hesitation Sarah responded with a very eager ‘yes’.

“I thought the march was fantastic, I can’t wait to participate in the next one!”
