Executive General Manager of Football Peter Bell says he is more than happy to have Rory Lobb remain at Fremantle after learning of a potential offer from GWS midway through the first week of the Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period.

Lobb had attracted interest from his former Club with the forward/ruck considering a move back to the eastern states.

Speaking on 6PR, Bell reiterated Lobb’s importance to Fremantle as a contracted player with two years remaining, and said the Giants weren’t willing to offer a deal significant enough to reach Lobb’s value to Fremantle.

“Late last night (Wednesday night), Colin Young, Rory’s manager, said there’s a possibility that GWS might be interested in Rory,” Bell told 6PR.

“(Young) said there was an offer coming that we would want to look at and I said, ‘look it’s not something that we’re going to be really interested in and we don’t want to trade Rory.

“We’re really keen to keep Rory and as it turned out, about half an hour ago (on Thursday evening), Colin rang me and said ‘what’s come through (from GWS) doesn’t look like it will get anything done’.”

Lobb put forward some of his best career performances in 2021, highlighted by his seven votes at the 2021 Brownlow Medal Count.

Bell said that Lobb was eager to work on his consistency to ensure he plays closer to his best football every week.

“We’ve got to help him to be the player that he threatens to be sometimes,” Bell said.

“He doesn’t have to reach the levels that he did against Hawthorn or Sydney, we just need him to be a more consistent player and we think he can be a really good contributor for us.

“I don’t think it (the trade) is going to go anywhere and we’ll work really hard with Rory.”

Bell said Fremantle were going to be patient with any deal involving Geelong’s Jordan Clark, who has shown interest in returning to WA to play for Fremantle.

Clark has one year left on his contract and, similar to Lobb with Fremantle, Bell said Geelong were well within their rights to push to keep the 20-year-old midfielder.

“I think we’re getting closer, there’s no guarantee it will get done,” Bell said.

“(Playing hard ball) is their right with a contracted player, we’ll continue to work really hard and we’re in constant dialogue with (Clark’s manager) Jason Dover and Jordan, letting them know where things sit.

“But he’s a contracted player and we’ll respect that with Geelong and we’ll work really hard at satisfying them.”
