There are simple expectations of Fremantle’s young inclusions for Saturday’s clash with Brisbane, according to midfield coach Anthony Rock.
Fremantle will debut the youngest player on their list in 18-year-old Brennan Cox, while 22-year-old Sam Collins will play his 13th AFL game in his first appearance of the season.
Cox and Collins are two of Fremantle’s three inclusions for Saturday’s clash, with Tommy Sheridan coming in for the injured Ed Langdon.
Sheridan will play his fifth AFL game for the 2017 season, and will look to add to his average of 16 disposals and four marks per game.
Rock highlighted Cox’s importance as a versatile player.
“It’s really exciting for Brennan,” Rock told mix 94.5 radio.
“He’s a key position player who can play either back or forward.
“He’s really athletic and reads the game really well and is really clean at ground level, and good overhead.
“We’re just looking for him to play his role and enjoy the moment of his AFL debut.”
Collins has been rewarded with selection after 10 strong appearances for Peel as a key defender in 2017.
“His commitment at WAFL level has been really good,” Rock said.
“His communication and direction to help down back has been really consistent this season.
“It’s terrific that he’s got the opportunity.
“He’s in the same mould as Brennan Cox, we’d just like him to come in and play his role, defend really strongly and execute his kicking skills at the right time when he has to make those decisions.”
