It was one of the all-time great marks, and it couldn’t have come at a more important time in Fremantle’s season.
But you won’t hear small forward Lachie Schultz bragging about his epic mark and goal against Richmond on Sunday, according to teammate Caleb Serong.
After going behind early in the fourth quarter, Schultz and Serong combined with back-to-back goals to seal a four-point win.
Speaking to SportFM, Serong said Schultz wasn’t getting carried away with the game winning moment.
“He won't talk about it at all, he's more than happy just to go about his business. He's a very humble guy,” Serong said.
“No doubt the boys have been getting around him. In the circumstances of the game, it was an absolutely amazing mark and for him to settle himself and go back and kick the goal, it was a great reward for his game.
“The way he was putting on pressure, defending for us and playing his role in terms of the positioning as a high half forward was second to none. That was a massive reward for him.”
In comparison to Schultz’s modesty, Serong said he cringed watching the replay of his matchwinner.
“I don't think (I’ve kicked a game winning goal before), not that I can remember,” Serong said.
“I watched it a couple of times after the game but I had to turn it off after I saw my carry on after I kicked it.
“I didn't really realise how much I carried on! But it was nice to contribute to the team win.
“I was lucky that Liam Henry showed massive fight for the ball at ground level and then Trav (Colyer) found me with the handball. I was just standing there and I was lucky enough for it to pop in my hands I think.”
