Fremantle senior coach Justin Longmuir believes David Mundy is continuing to execute his role perfectly, after another impressive performance against Collingwood at Marvel Stadium on Saturday.

Mundy was at his usual best against the Pies, finishing with 28 disposals (12 contested), six tackles, four clearances and four marks.

Longmuir was filled with praise for Mundy, backing him in after being questioned whether the Fremantle veteran might receive All-Australian honours at the end of the season.

“I’d be surprised if he wasn’t. He’s a super player, he’s been our captain the last two weeks,” Longmuir said.

“He leads us really well whether he’s got a title or not. He understands the position we’re in as well.

“He doesn’t start every quarter. We started the game with Darcy, Brayshaw, Cerra and Serong at the bounce and he understands his role in that.

“I thought the midfield battle was a real honest battle day and he was a big part of it.”

Speaking with Fox Footy post-game, Mundy said Fremantle were prepared for an in-form Collingwood outfit.

“We came away together with a bit of uncertainty about what it was going to look like when we got home,” Mundy said.

“After our bye, against a Collingwood team who over the last month have really resurged and changed their game plan and have been going quite well.

“We knew it was going to be a huge challenge and we saw especially in that last quarter they really jumped us at the start.”

“We are building that resilience and it’s great to see that manifest on a gameday like this.

“It’s something our group is really growing into, and we have a whole lot of trust in each other and in our system and the coaches.”

Fremantle’s playing group, coaches and staff will return home to Perth on Saturday night, before undertaking, at this stage, a few days in quarantine with exemptions to train at the Club.

“It’s always a bit nicer when we win, there’s a little bit of uncertainty about what it looks like when we get home,” Munday said.

“Our advice so far is that it might be a few days of quarantine, maybe not two weeks, and we’ll return negative Covid-19 tests and all that kind of stuff.”
