Fremantle defender Laura Pugh has signed on with the Club for a further two seasons, as Freo continue to lock away some of the big names on their list.
Pugh comes off the back of a top ten finish in May’s Fairest and Best count, proving an integral part of Fremantle’s defensive line.
The 27-year-old has now clocked up 21 games with Fremantle across the previous three seasons.
“I’m very excited to be back at the Club for another two years,” Pugh said.
“I’m looking forward to it, especially after this year…we have got a lot to improve on.
“I think it’s really great to see that everyone is committed…we’ve all got really good relationships with one another off the field and as teammates.”
A shorter off-season has Pugh already working to improve on her game, with season six of the AFLW competition brought forward to a December start.
Pugh said one of her primary focuses was building strength in the gym.
“I’m focusing on my fitness, and I’ve been hitting the gym a bit more,” Pugh said.
“That’s definitely the main goal, to get a lot stronger which will help me compete against the stronger players in the competition.
“It’s important because everyone just keeps improving year on year.”
Pugh’s two-year signing mirrors that of her coach Trent Cooper who has also signed on for a further two seasons with the Club.
“It’s really great that ‘Coops’ is back on board,” Pugh said.
“He’s so intelligent and we learn so much off him, so the next two years will be really exciting.
“I’m looking forward to what we can bring over the next few seasons.”
