Fremantle have confirmed that midfielder Stephen Hill has had a setback with injury.

The midfielder was set to make his return to football by playing limited minutes with Peel Thunder this weekend.

At a media conference at the Club on Wednesday, CEO Simon Garlick confirmed that Hill would not run out for the Thunder against Claremont.

“Stephen had a bit of a setback at training on Saturday,” Garlick said.

“We’re still assessing where he’s at. He was all tracking really well and he’s had a slight setback and we’re assessing what that will be.

“We’re hopeful of (Hill playing this season) we’re assessing the extent of it and waiting to see, he was tracking really well we were hopeful of him coming back to play WAFL this weekend but that won’t be the case.”

Hill played 12 games for Fremantle in 2020, last playing against the Western Bulldogs in the final round of the season.

Garlick said Fremantle were hopeful Hill will play football in 2021.

“The future for Stephen right now is focusing on getting as fit as he possibly can as quick as he possibly can,” Garlick said.

“Our focus is on him playing a part in the back half of the year and going from there.”
