WAFL Watch - Round 21
Find out how Freo's players fared in the recent round of WAFL action
Jesse played a half on the wing opposed to Shaun Hildebrandt where he held his opponent well. He showed a good work rate where he referenced his opponent and also worked hard to receive and expose. He showed some good aggression in regards to his tackling and physicality and, overall, ran hard.
Peter Faulks (PT) 15 disposals (10 kicks, 5 handballs) 10 marks
Peter played out of the goal square in defence for most of the game on Dale Garlett. Garlett was very dangerous at ground level, he ended up kicking a number of goals on Peter. To Peter's credit he stuck to his task and had an impact on the game in the fourth quarter, particularly with some strong spoils and smothers.
Hayden Crozier (PT) 27 disposals (19 kicks, 8 handballs) 7 marks
Hayden played a mix of high forward, wing and inside mid. He had a quiet first quarter where he only had three possessions but got going after that where he found a lot of the football. He had four rebounds from defensive 50 and had five inside 50s. He made some good decisions with the ball. We found that he managed to work himself back into the game by working hard defensively and demonstrating good run.
Craig Moller (PT) 18 disposals (8 kicks, 10 handballs) 4 marks, 21 hitouts, 1 goal
Craig played in the ruck with short stints in the forward line. He played with good effort, particularly with his follow up from ruck contests, where he had seven clearances. He showed a strong desire to follow up his ruck work through tackling and blocks. Overall it was a really competitive effort for Craig, with Peel winning the clearances and, as the main ruckman, he played a big part in that.
Viv Michie (PT) 13 disposals (7 kicks, 6 handballs)
Viv played in the midfield and as a high forward. Unfortunately he came off late in the second quarter and did not return. He will miss the rest of the season after tearing the cartilage in his right knee. He had surgery in Melbourne earlier in the week and we will expect him to be available for pre-season.
Matt Taberner (PT) 16 disposals (11 kicks, 5 handballs) 12 marks 1 goal
Matt played key forward and worked his opponent over with good work rate and a strong desire to run and present at the ball. He marked the ball well, taking 12 marks, six of them contested. When he didn't mark the ball he brought it to ground for the crumbers. Unfortunately he didn't finish his work off and missed four set shots. Overall, his effort and marking was solid.
Alex Forster (PT) 13 disposals (9 kicks, 4 handballs) 4 marks, 2 goals
Alex played in defence for the first half where he gave some good run and good disposal out of the back half. He faded a little through the second quarter as a defender, but got going in the last quarter where he had an impact on the scoreboard showing good composure. He kicked two goals when the game was in the balance.
Josh Mellington (WP) 14 disposals (9 kicks, 5 kicks) 1 goal
Josh played as a high and low forward and went in for the centre square bounce at times. He marked from a quick kick early in the game and converted a set shot. He took a little while to get going and gathered possessions through smarts, but it wasn't until the final quarter that he got to work by joining in, playing his role at the stoppage and showing a better effort. This was displayed through a great ground ball gather and fend and he snapped a goal from 40 meters late in the game.
Max Duffy (PT) 23 disposals (14 kicks, 9 handballs) 1 goal
Max played for Peel Thunder reserves as East Fremantle had the bye. Coming back after four weeks off due to injury, he played inside mid and as a high forward. He played an attacking brand of football where he worked really hard when on ball with five clearances, and showed good smarts around stoppages. He looked dangerous around the forward 50 when playing as a high forward and kicked a goal in the first quarter.
Alex Howson (SD) 19 disposals (10 kicks, 9 handballs) 4 goals
Alex played key forward for Swan Districts reserves where he looked good early, kicking two goals in the first quarter. He took some good one-on-one marks deep, finishing the game with four goals. He worked hard to leave the forward 50 to give Swans an option coming out of their defensive 50.
