When Ange Stannett was announced as Fremantle’s Best Clubwoman on Sunday night at Crown Perth, she revealed one way she went the extra mile to be the ultimate team player.
When Fremantle travelled, it meant more than a handful of players were left behind.
To ensure the whole group felt as one when the team went interstate, Stannett produced and edited a Big Mother series of videos, based on the Big Brother reality show.
The videos helped create a life-hearted atmosphere on Freo’s road trips and may have contributed strongly to their impressive road wins against Adelaide and Carlton.
Stannett stopped short revealing who played the Big Mother role.
“i don’t know how to describe this but I’m going to try…we did our own take on Big Brother while we were away, so we could keep everyone in Perth up to date with what was going on,” Stannett said.
“We were doing diary type interviews with almost every member of the travelling party when I was away.
“There was a casting and producing crew behind us. Big Mother is with us in the house right now, but I won’t reveal who it is!”
Stannett was incredibly moved to be named Best Clubwoman, an award acknowledges the player that consistently puts the needs of the team first and aims to improve the club environment as a whole.
“I’m actually speechless right now,” Stannett said.
“Thank you so much to the club, my amazing teammates and our incredible staff right now.
“It means the world. I’m very privileged to be in this position and to be surrounded by the people we have at this footy club.”
