Justin Longmuir says Fremantle won’t be reading too much into their dominant win against Sydney in 2020, where Freo held the Swans to 19 points in a 31-point win.
He said the Swans are heading west for Saturday night’s clash at Optus Stadium with a stronger line-up that is excelling under a new game plan.
With forward stars Lance Franklin and Isaac Heeney in the lineup, compared to the team that faced Freo in 2020, Longmuir said it’s unreasonable to expect Fremantle to limit the Swans to two goals, even with defender Luke Ryan returning.
“We would (like to replicate last year) but they’re a different team now,” Longmuir told SEN WA.
“They’ve got some more experienced players back, especially through the midfield and forward line that they didn’t have last year.
“They’re playing a different type of footy as well, they’re free-flowing with their ball movement, their clearance work and stoppage work is still really strong.
“We’re going to have to be at our best but I think our best is good enough.”
Fremantle will have to get it done in the midfield without young star Andrew Brayshaw, who had come out with a calf injury.
Longmuir was hopeful Brayshaw would be fit to return against Port Adelaide in round 11.
“It is a big out. He’s been in good form, not just recently, all year to the extent he’s been tagged in a few games,” Longmuir said.
“It looks like it’s going to be the one week at this stage.
“He gave it a little bit of a nick in the game on the weekend (against Essendon), we thought he might be a chance to get up this week but we probably took the conservative approach and gave him a week off and get him cherry ripe for next week.”
'We want to make sure we get a fair run this week'
