And the seven players rested in round 21, including captain Matthew Pavlich, will all return this week.

The other players back in the Freo fold are experienced trio David Mundy, Roger Hayden and Adam McPhee, and youngsters Stephen Hill, Anthony Morabito and Nat Fyfe.

Chris Mayne, who has been missing since round 11 with an ankle injury, is also back after displaying enough form in the WAFL last weekend to prove he was ready to resume his place in the forward line.

Omitted from the side that lost to Hawthorn are Kepler Bradley, Rhys Palmer, Clancee Pearce, Steven Dodd, Zac Clarke, Justin Bollenhagen, Byron Schammer, Ryan Murphy and Clayton Hinkley.

Hayden Ballantyne, who has missed the past three games through injury, has been named as an emergency, along with Des Headland and Palmer.

The stakes are high for both teams tomorrow night, with a Fremantle victory ensuring there will be a Subiaco home final next week.

A loss, however, would see Freo travel to Melbourne or Sydney for its first final since 2006.

Carlton is eighth at the moment, but it can claim a home final if it beats Fremantle, and Collingwood triumphs over Hawthorn this weekend.

Fremantle defeated Carlton by nine points at Etihad Stadium in round 13 earlier this season, when Sandilands had a season-high 49 hit-outs after the Blues lost their ruckman, Matthew Kruezer, with a knee injury early in the first quarter.

Senior coach Mark Harvey said it would be good to have Sandilands back leading the ruck brigade.

“There will be a lot more direction around the stoppage area and perhaps a predictability about where the ball may finish up,” he said.

“I think Aaron physically asserts himself around those areas, too.”

Harvey labelled tomorrow night’s clash as a “final before a final”.

“I think it’s fantastic for the city of Perth and WA to have a huge build up to a game like this,” he said.

“It’s about the players being able to be involved in the emotion of moving into a finals series and this having an implication towards it.

“I think that’s fantastic, particularly for our younger players, and particularly for the older guys, who have probably been starved of these types of games.

“It’ll be a fantastic game and it’ll have it all.”

Harvey was not concerned about making so many changes, saying the players that missed last week could play better than they did before their break.

“The guys know how we play and that’s the number one thing,” he said.

“Whether guys have missed a week or three weeks, it shouldn’t matter.

“The guys that didn’t play last week, they could actually play better. You don’t play every game of your career. You miss games through injury every now and then … but you find your touch pretty much straight away.”
