Senior coach Justin Longmuir says Fremantle’s backline will face a big challenge against Adelaide key forward Tex Walker at Adelaide Oval on Sunday.
Walker has been instrumental in the Crows’ 3-1 start to the season, kicking 20 goals from the opening four rounds.
Longmuir said Adelaide have a game plan that enhances Walker’s strengths and it will take a team effort to limit his impact.
“We’ve spoken a lot about Adelaide’s system. They do open up a lot of holes and create a lot of isolation for him (Walker),” Longmuir said.
“We don’t want to give whichever back plays on him the job to do in a lot of space. We’ll need to support whoever that is.
“He’s got some real strengths as a player in terms of his ability to lead at the ball, he has well timed leads and takes contested marks.”
Longmuir added that Walker would be a threat both with and without the ball.
“He’s been getting a lot of his shots on goal from tackles inside forward 50, so we need to be wary of him when we’ve got the ball at ground level as well,” Longmuir said.
“He’s a class player and back to his best. He’s getting really good supply from their midfield, especially from stoppage.
“We’ll need to make sure we’re on around the ball.”
