Justin Longmuir could have a selection headache around Fremantle’s tall forwards and rucks if Rory Lobb becomes available for selection for Sunday’s clash with Adelaide at Adelaide Oval.
Thursday’s main training was the final barrier to Lobb’s selection with the tall forward moving well throughout the session.
Longmuir said he would select Lobb if he was confident the 206cm ruck/forward could run out a full game, which would leave some tough decisions regarding rucks Sean Darcy and Lloyd Meek and forwards Matt Taberner and Josh Treacy.
“Clearly we can’t play them all so we’re going to have to have a good discussion about what our best mix is,” Longmuir said.
“That discussion will involve what’s best for this week and what’s best for the future.
“We’ve got to weigh up all those things but we’ll be too top heavy if Rory comes in for a small. We’re just trying to get that mix right.”
Longmuir said he was reluctant to omit Meek or Darcy considering their recent form.
“I’ve been really happy with what Lloyd’s done, he’s shown great improvement over the last month so he’d be really stiff to miss out,” Longmuir said.
“Sean’s been really good up forward. He’s had a lot of score involvement for us. He’s been really good in the ruck. He’s only going to get better and better off the limited pre-season and lead-in he got to the season.”
