Star forward Gabby O’Sullivan believes Fremantle can take it to the highest rated teams in the AFLW ahead of Saturday’s qualifying final against Melbourne at Casey Fields.

Fremantle will have to do it the hard way if they are to win a maiden premiership, needing to win back-to-back games on the road to qualify for the grand final.

They face a Melbourne side who prevailed by five points a fortnight ago at Fremantle Oval and O’Sullivan believes Freo can learn from the loss.

“The fact that we came back from such a large deficit gives us confidence,” O’Sullivan said.

“With Daisy Pearce being out, it will be tough on Melbourne but they’re still going to be a really good side.

“We only lost against them by five points last time, so (it will take) effort for four quarters and being really clean with the football.”

Starting the season as one of the premiership favourites, Freo have limped into finals with three losses in five weeks against fellow finalists Melbourne, Brisbane and North Melbourne.

It means Freo go into the finals as underdogs, a tag that O’Sullivan believes can suit Fremantle.

“I think people may have written us off and we like to have that underdog status,” O’Sullivan said.

“We just have to do our best and play Freo footy.

“This weekend is do or die for everyone that’s playing. Our backs are against the wall and we need to win this one.”
