The future looks bright at Fremantle as a youthful White team prevailed against their more experienced Purple opponents in an intraclub match at Victor George Kailis Oval on Friday morning.

Q1

Chapman shows his ability
Heath Chapman made an impact on the game almost instantly as he intercepted kick on the wing by taking a strong contested mark at full stretch. After he disposed of the ball, he followed up a few seconds later to lay an impressive tackle and create a stoppage.

Young creates the link
Hayden Young took a good intercept mark at the top of defensive 50 and rolled off to move the ball all the way into attacking 50 and hit up Bailey Banfield on a lead.

Cox on the last line
Brennan Cox showed his determination and desperation when he stopped a certain goal for the Purple team after laying a tackle right on the goal line to earn himself a free kick for holding the ball.

Henry kicks the first
Liam Henry kicked an impressive first goal of the match with his effort to crumb and snap from 30m out.

Aish and Acres salute for Purple
Late in the quarter, Blake Acres and James Aish both found themselves on the end of a goal for the Purple team after working hard throughout the quarter in the midfield and across the wing.

Q2

Back-to-back for Banfield
Bailey Banfield started the second quarter in style, kicking two goals within two minutes. His first goal came from a set shot on a slight angle, 30m out while his second was the more impressive of the two as he used some crafty footwork to keep the ball in front of him, running into an open goal and scoring.

Sonny shows his class
Michael Walters wowed spectators as he danced and weaved out of a tight spot against the boundary line and avoided two tacklers with a step and spin, then hit his target down the line with a pinpoint kick off his left boot.

Chapman wins his own ball
Heath Chapman’s desire to win the footy was unquestionable in this contest as he chased down the ball carrier to win his own ball, break through a tackle and release to a nearby teammate as he continued to provide run and support up the ground.

Western on the run
Joel Western gave us an exciting glimpse of what’s to come as a crumbed the ball off the pack and weaved his way through to kick a goal on the run from 50m out.

Q3

Sharp Shooter
Lachie Schultz had already made an impact on the match with his tackling pressure and intent to win the ball, but his kick inside 50 to a leading Josh Treacy was one of his best highlights from the match. Treacy led out from goal and Schultz weighted his kick perfectly over the defender to place it right into the path of the rookie’s lead. Treacy made sure of the goal to top off the play.

Cerra’s pressure
Adam Cerra ramped up the pressure in the midfield after laying two crunching tackles within a short period of time, earning himself a free kick on one of the occasions. The two tackles were just a small sample of his output both defensively and with the footy.

White work it forward
After smothering a kick on the wing, Leno Thomas stole the ball and delivered it to Liam Henry in the middle of the ground. Henry then gave a handball to Mitch Crowden who cleverly snapped the ball over his shoulder under pressure to find Josh Treacy on his own inside 50. Treacy then kicked a nice set shot for his second goal of the match.

Q4

Schultz shows courage
Lachie Schultz took a brilliant mark at the beginning of the last, going back with the flight of the ball and holding on despite some strong contact from behind. He then went back and kicked a goal from the set shot.

Treacy kicks his third
Josh Treacy rounded out his game with a nice snap off his left boot from the pocket to kick his third goal of the match.

Serong’s crunching tackle
Caleb Serong managed to get some reward for effort after tracking back to lay a big defensive tackle across half back on the boundary line, earning himself a free kick for holding the ball.
