Fremantle Dockers AFLW forward Ashley Sharp has started her 2021 campaign with a bang after kicking two goals in her first game of the season.
Sharp was Fremantle’s only inclusion for round three after defender Evie Gooch was unable to travel due to her commitments with DFES back in Perth.
After a quiet first term, the speedy forward came alive in the second quarter to kick a crucial goal for Fremantle off the back of some hard work from Sabreena Duffy, helping put Freo 11 points up at half time.
Sharp kicked her second goal in the closing stages of the third quarter with some individual brilliance in the pocket, snapping from her left boot to kick Fremantle’s fifth consecutive goal of the match.
“I’ve been running to get up to match fitness and I’m out back playing now, and I couldn’t have asked for a better day to be back,” Sharp said.
“I’m stoked (to be back) and any time you put on the jumper it’s a privilege, so I’m honoured to be out playing again and love the girls.
“It’s a privilege to be playing footy at the moment and getting the win with the girls.”
It was the first time Fremantle have played the Crows since 2019 and with that match being played in Darwin, it was the first time Fremantle had travelled to Adelaide.
Sharp was pleased to get the win on the road and made sure to give a shoutout to the Fremantle fans watching on from home.
“We’ve never been to Adelaide before and it’s awesome to end the day with a win,” Sharp said.
“To all the Freo fans back home, thank you, we love you and we can hear you!”
