Melbourne: Won 4 Lost 17 (16th) - L L L L L L L L L W L W L L L L L W L W L

The selection table

Freo - The big decision is on Matthew Pavlich, who was a late withdrawal against North Melbourne. Should the captain fail to come up, Zac Clarke may get another shot up forward. The team appears to be settled, although Jon Griffin will be desperate to prove he can still contribute in the ruck.

Melbourne - The Demons will lose long-serving forward Brad Green, who retired effective immediately after the loss to Adelaide on the weekend. Mark Jamar could return to bolster the ruck.

Who’s hot

Freo - Clancee Pearce: Pearce has had a terrific fortnight with 22 and 28 disposals in his past two games. He’s become a valued member of the midfield.

Melbourne - Colin Sylvia: After a forgettable start to his season, the talented midfielder has been growing steadily to somewhere near his best form. He had 34 disposals on the weekend.

X-Factor

Freo - Stephen Hill: Hill torched the Kangaroos with a dominant midfield performance on Sunday. A similar effort should ensure some fireworks at Patersons on Saturday night.

Melbourne - Nathan Jones: A shining light in a difficult season for Melbourne. The hard working midfielder rarely puts in a bad effort and will be charged with holding up the fort in the midfield on Saturday.

Key match-ups

Stephen Hill v Jordie McKenzie: The Dees sent McKenzie to tag Patrick Dangerfield last week and he did a serviceable job on the star Crow. It’s likely then that he’ll run with Freo’s own excitement machine on Saturday night.

Aaron Sandilands v Jake Spencer/Mark Jamar:
After a domination of Roos big man Todd Goldstein, Sandilands will take on what’s left of Melbourne’s ruck department. Things could get ugly for Jake Spencer if Mark Jamar doesn’t come up as ‘Sandi’ looks likely to get around 50 hitouts again.

Toyota AFL Dream Team

Freo - David Mundy:
Mundy is on fire at present and he has the highest average (91) over the past three games against Melbourne of any player who will be on the ground on Saturday.

Melbourne: Colin Sylvia:
Sylvia is capable of generating some very high DT scores. He’s averaged 89 over his past three against Freo.
