David Mundy commenced his 18th pre-season on Wednesday

A handful of Fremantle players made their first appearance at the club this pre-season on Wednesday morning as the five-plus year players officially made their return to training.

Training was completed in small groups under the AFL’s Covid-19 protocols with three groups taking to the track in the morning.

Fremantle leaders Nat Fyfe, David Mundy and Reece Conca led the way in ‘Group 2’, which consisted of players who were returning to training for the first time this pre-season.

The group also included South Australians James Aish, Brennan Cox and Luke Valente, who were unable to return to WA and completed their off-season program in Adelaide.

The players’ skills held up in the windy conditions, even when asked to complete the kicking drills on their non-preferred boot.

Mundy was a strong presence as he commenced his 18th pre-season, continuing to act as a leader and even running water for the group.

Giro moved well and was not held back after missing the 2020 season with an ACL and syndesmosis injury.

Valente appeared to have put on size ahead of his third pre-season and impressed as he chases a debut in 2021.

Group one consisted of players who had commenced their pre-seasons in December, led by five-plus year players Rory Lobb, Luke Ryan and Connor Blakely, who made their early returns in December.

New draftee Heath Chapman didn’t look out of place in the group with his agility and accurate kicking ability on show.

Griffin Logue cast an imposing figure and moved well while Liam Henry looked fit as he looked to complete his first full pre-season after an injury-interrupted summer in 2020.

Defender Alex Pearce completed a fitness session with the aim of making his return to football training in the coming days.

Separate from the rest of the club’s staff and players, Fremantle’s 15 quarantine players Adam Cerra, Caleb Seorng, Hayden Young, Andrew Brayshaw, Lachie Schultz, Lloyd Meek, Sam Sturt, Sam Switkowski, Taylin Duman, Darcy Tucker, Matt Taberner, Sean Darcy, Brett Bewley, Michael Frederick and Josh Treacy all completed a training session in the afternoon with coaches Matthew Boyd and Joel Corey.
