One thing is clear when glancing at the disposal statistics in 2012 - Richmond likes to possess the football.

Under Damien Hardwick, the Tigers lead the AFL in disposals with 7256 - 556 more than Fremantle have had.

Richmond uses the handball a lot, ranking second in the league with 167 per game (Freo 14th - 145), while they are sixth in kicks, averaging 215 (Freo 10th - 207).

The majority of the Tigers’ possessions are won uncontested, with 233 per game that ranks second in the AFL (Freo 15th - 206).

But Richmond are no slouches at winning the contested ball, averaging 147 (fourth in the AFL).

Fremantle are sixth with 145 contested possessions a game, however, contested possessions account for 41 per cent of Freo’s total possessions, while only 38 per cent of Richmond’s.
