The Fremantle players at three-quarter time in their win against North Melbourne

Fremantle put on an example of how they want to play as a team with a 64-point win against North Melbourne on Saturday at Metricon Stadium, according to captain Nat Fyfe.

While Fremantle were dominant, there was no real standout from the winning team, with Freo putting on a text book team performance with a number of contributors.

This was no more evident than on the scoreboard, with Jesse Hogan kicking four goals and Lachie Schultz, Matt Taberner and Michael Walters all kicking three.

It was a similar story in the midfield with Fyfe, David Mundy and Blake Acres all leading the disposals with 24 each, while James Aish (23), Stephen Hill (20) and Andrew Brayshaw (20) also contributing.

“It’s nice with a few different guys bobbing up today,” Fyfe told Fox Footy.

“That is what we want to be, a team with multiple strings. It doesn’t always have to be the same guys strutting out best-ons each week.

“We’re a total system team and, hopefully, we can keep on developing.”

ALL THE HIGHLIGHTS

Fyfe gave credit to Justin Longmuir as well as his teammates, who are growing under the senior coach’s new game plan despite having limited training time as a full group under Covid-19 protocols.

“I think JL (Longmuir) has brought some new language, a new system and we are building week on week,” Fyfe said.

“It’s been difficult not being able to train but we’ve seen that what we’re putting out there each week is getting better and better.”

The win comes as Fremantle ends a run of four games in 15 days between rounds 14 and 17, where Fremantle improved as it wore on, finishing with wins against Melbourne and North Melbourne.

“We’ve got an eight day break and it couldn’t have come quick enough!” Fyfe said.

“I’m really proud in the way our team played over the four quarters and, together with getting the score on the board, it’s good reward for a long year of effort.”
