Fremantle will need to stay on their toes as they prepare for a clash with Melbourne in five day’s time at Cazaly’s Stadium in Cairns, according to Blake Acres.

Freo stuck with Richmond for three quarters in a 27-point loss on Wednesday night, however the Tigers’ four-goal final term helped seal the win.

Led by Nat Fyfe and 19-year-old Caleb Serong, Fremantle were clearly on top in the midfield, winning the clearances 38-19.

Fyfe had 23 disposals, 12 contested possessions and nine clearances while Serong also impressed with 22 disposals, nine contested possessions, five tackles and five clearances.

Acres said the Tigers were able to run away with the game in the final term.

“To travel across from WA and to back it up from last week’s game, the boys tried their hardest ,” Acres said.

“(With a four-day break) you’ve got to stay focused the whole time. We’ll do our review and move straight on to Melbourne. We don’t have much time to sit back and relax.

“We’ll hub up in Cairns for a few weeks. The boys are up to it and we’ll try to finish off the year strong.”

Acres led all players with 27 disposals on the night, having a strong return to AFL football after last playing against Geelong in round eight.

“I felt like my fitness was good and I was able to run through the game alright,” Acres said.

“It’s been a while for me since I’ve played my last game. Just to be out there and helping and contributing to the team, that’s a win for me.

“I’ve been doing a bit of work with my fitness and trying to build that back up to where it was in the pre-season.

“I’ve felt good the last couple of weeks and I was able to get my opportunity tonight.”
