Fremantle have a lot to work on in a short amount of time as they prepare for a clash with Richmond at Metricon Stadium on Wednesday, according to midfielder Andrew Brayshaw.

Freo have now entered a compressed fixture of four games in 15 days, starting with Saturday’s 38-point loss to GWS at Optus Stadium, as they head to Queensland on Sunday for their second hub of the season.

While Fremantle’s recovery will be paramount as they look to go again in four days’ time, Brayshaw said there was plenty to review after they were found out against the Giants.

“It was disappointing, I feel like the last month, we’ve been playing some good footy and today’s performance wasn’t our best,” Brayshaw said.

“We let them through the corridor too much and they sliced us up and scored a fair bit. There’s a lot to take out of the game and we need be ready in four days against Richmond.”

The Giants won the contest and the clearances with ease, putting too much pressure on Fremantle’s usually rock-solid backline.

“It was our team defence, when the Giants had the ball they were able to look inside, hit those one or two kicks and go the open side, which our defenders weren’t set up for,” Brayshaw said.

“When we had the ball, they were really strong through the corridor and forced us around them. I think the team defence was the main difference (between the teams).”

Brayshaw said Fremantle’s work on recovery would be as important as ever.

‘We’ve got a four day break coming up this next week, which is a first for a lot of the players” Brayshaw said.

“There’s a really big focus on recovery the next few days.

“We’ll review this game and I think a lot of it will be on our team defence, so we’ve really got to focus on that in the next few weeks.

“We’ll try and finish the year strong and back our system. It won’t take anything special, we have to go back to what we’re good at, protect the corridor, hit the free (player) and I think we’ll get back to our best footy.”
