Fremantle leader David Mundy has explained why he is in no rush to sign a contract for 2021 despite indicating he is eager for an 18th season in the AFL.
The midfielder continues to play his best football at 35 including being one of Freo’s best in their 31-point win against Sydney at Optus Stadium in round 13.

His excellent form has led to calls that the veteran should play on, however Mundy said he would not be rushing the process.
“There’s so many unknowns around what the football club will look like next year, what the AFL mandate the changes (for the 2021 season) may be,” Mundy told ABC radio.
“It’s very much a wait and see to see where the list lands, see what the club’s direction is and see how my back end of the season form is.
“As has been well reported, I’m in constant chats with (general manager of football) Peter Bell and (senior coach) Justin Longmuir. We’re aware of everyone’s desires and situation, we’re also very patiently waiting to see what happens.”
Mundy has been praised for his efforts and leadership on and off the field and said this form meant he was eager to keep playing and build on his 327-games experience.
“I certainly feel that I’m still contributing to the best 22 each week. That’s obviously a really big factor in my thinking and my decision making,” Mundy said.
“I don’t want to be dead weight moving forward but I also understand that a lot can happen in the next five or six weeks.
“My focus at the moment is to continue to be a valuable member of Fremantle’s playing side each weekend.”
