Robinson found it hard to split Ryan and West Coast defender Jeremy McGovern, who also starred at the weekend.
“I think Luke Ryan is an absolute lock for an All Australian team,” Robinson said.
“I argued he might be the best defender in the comp, and then I saw Jeremy McGovern’s (game against GWS). I have them at an even peg this year.
Whateley was a big fan of Ryan’s story, drafted as a mature aged player from Coburg Lions in the VFL in 2016.
“He’s 24 years old in his fourth season. He’s a pick 66 who’s progressively developed his game in front of our eyes but he never looked so sure as this, he’s the player they couldn’t pass,” Whateley said.

“On a night where they kept the Swans, who were full of verve form their previous game, to two goals, Luke Ryan was such a big part of it.
