Around the club, Freo forward/midfielder Mitch Crowden is simply known as Mitch or ‘Mitchy’ but for the duration of his three-year career he’s had a much more creative moniker from fans on social media.
The 21-year-old has quickly earned a reputation for his elite tackling and pressure, and that was no more evident in round 11 against Hawthorn, where he had 11 tackles in Freo’s 16-point win.

In one passage of play, Crowden laid three tackles in the space of a few seconds to help turn the ball over and get Freo an inside 50.
While fans on twitter cheer in support of the #spleenrupturer, Crowden is happy to continue to be known as Mitch by his teammates.
“To be honest, at the club there’s not too many nicknames,” Crowden told 6PR.
“It’s just really ‘Mitch’. Some of the nicknames getting around on social media, I try to keep them away from the boys because some of those – like spleen rupturer - I don’t really want that as a nickname at the club!”
What a picture.

Fremantle have won both games against Hawthorn and Collingwood since Crowden made his AFL return and he said he was loving the vibe around the club.
“It’s really good, I’m just super excited to be out there with the boys and to get the win is just extra cream on the cake,” Crowden said.
“The crowd’s been awesome and it’s just been fantastic to be out there.”
Crowden said Freo’s current form could be directly attributed to senior coach Justin Longmuir’s game plan coming together.
He added that the game plan lead to an increased disposal efficiency. Against Hawthorn, Fremantle’s disposal efficiency was 77.6 per cent, more than five per cent higher than their season average of 72.1 per cent, which is the third highest average in the AFL.
“I think Justin’s instilled confidence into every player, not just myself,” Crowden said.
“Certainly the ability to be able to trust the game plan and to know there is going to be options is something that we necessarily haven’t had before.
“Against Geelong, we didn’t really keep our forward structure, there was no-one to kick to but in the last couple of weeks, having that structure, we’ve been able to have options and the kicking has been unreal.
“Adam Cerra has been hitting targets lace out and it’s really quite easy to be able to hit those targets if those boys are structured up forward. Overall, it’s just really positive for us.”
