Fremantle have suffered a 32-point loss to Geelong on a wet Monday night at Optus Stadium.
The Cats dominated possession 343 to 280, leading to 20 more inside 50s and 12 more scoring shots.
Young defender Tobe Watson showed some promising signs on debut, coming in as a late inclusion for Brennan Cox.
Luke Ryan was arguably Fremantle's best down back up against Geelong's Tom Hawkins.
The defender had 23 disposals and provided Fremantle with most of their rebound with 14 intercepts, 15 rebound 50s and 661 metres gained.
Freo’s young midfielders ensured Freo remained competitive in the contest, with Andrew Brayshaw leading Fremantle with 27 disposals and six clearances while laying eight tackles.
First year mid Caleb Serong also shone paying close attention to Geelong star Patrick Dangerfield.
Serong had 22 disposals, seven tackles and kicked a goal while limiting Dangerfield to 18 disposals.
He also gave Freo fans something to cheer about late in the game with an impressive goal on his non-preferred left foot from a tight angle.
To make the night worse for Fremantle, midfielder Darcy Tucker came off the ground early in the first quarter with what appeared to be a hamstring injury.
Fellow midfielder Michael Walters also came off the ground late with a leg injury and did not return.
Fremantle have a six-day break before facing Collingwood at Optus Stadium on Sunday 2 August.
