Fremantle ruckman Aaron Sandilands received good news on his injured left toe today with a Melbourne specialist ruling out the need for surgery.

Sandilands was returning after missing four weeks when he aggravated the injury in Saturday’s 23-point win over Brisbane at Patersons Stadium.

The All Australian ruckman flew to Melbourne on Sunday after having scans and visited the specialist today.

The specialist has advised that a review of the scans revealed less damage than was initially thought, ruling out the need for surgery.

Sandilands, who will miss the next four weeks, will continue his treatment under the guidance of Fremantle’s medical staff.

In more good news regarding the 2009 Doig Medallist, general manager of player management Brad Lloyd today confirmed that Sandilands had agreed to a one-year contract extension, taking him through to the end of season 2014.

“Aaron is an extremely important player and leader for Fremantle and the future of the club,” Lloyd said.

“We are delighted that he has committed to the club for the long-term.”
