Zac Dawson has capped off a solid first season at the Fremantle Dockers by being named the Programmed Recruit of the Year at tonight’s Doig Medal presentation in the Grand Ballroom at Crown Perth.

The award is proudly sponsored by major sponsor Programmed.

Dawson was an important member of Freo’s uncompromising defence that ranked behind only premiers Sydney for points conceded.

Dawson complemented Luke McPharlin nicely in the heart of the backline and was usually given the task of minding the opposition’s second tall forward.

He also brought with him an intimate knowledge of Ross Lyon’s game plan from his days at St Kilda.

The Programmed Recruit of the Year is determined by votes based on the weekly playing performances of each of the 2012 new recruits, either senior or rookie, in both the AFL and WAFL ranks.
