Fremantle has maintained its recent dominance of West Coast, winning the 30th Carlton Mid Derby by five points on Saturday, 10.11 (71) to 8.18 (66).

With nine first year players in the side and 6 derby debutants, Fremantle’s fifth straight derby win was its seventh from the last eight contests with its cross-town rivals.

Des Headland interviewed Jay van Berlo, Greg Broughton and Hayden Ballantyne after the match “From the Rooms” for FTV and they were all savouring the winning feeling.

“It was unreal, a very proud moment and just good to get a win on the board for the boys,” said Hayden Ballantyne.

Ross Glendinning medallists Aaron Sandilands also shared his post-match thoughts with FTV on the importance of the win for Fremantle’s young stocks.

"They're a really exciting young bunch, and they're trying their hardest and learning as much as possible as they go along," he said.

"They're the guys that have put it all on the line. So it was just good for the young boys who haven't experienced the winning feeling to experience that and get confidence from it."
