Smith's eye openers
Freo draftee Tanner Smith has already had a number of eye-opening experiences in his first week as an AFL player.
It started at teammate Chris Mayne’s house, where Smith is staying while the club sets up a host family arrangement for him.
“Mayney’s taught me things like what to eat, sleeping and preparation for training,” Smith said.
His first training session was nerve racking, but Smith soon settled.
“Once I got out there I was fine, just doing the stuff I love,” he said.
The gruelling nature of Wednesday’s session made Smith realise just how high the bar is raised at the elite level.
“It’s different being a full-time job now,” he said.
“They definitely take it really professionally, the way they go about it.”
Smith attended a Leadership Group-run session at Patersons Stadium on Thursday evening.
“We discussed what the club stands for, how they live their footy and how they go about it,” he said.
