Runners Nick Suban, Jay van Berlo and Jesse Crichton were included, as was ruck/forward Zac Clarke and form WAFL defender Peter Faulks.
Sharpshooter Chris Mayne misses the game with a calf injury, while Greg Broughton is also out with a back injury.
Van Berlo could earn another shot following his impressive performance for West Perth in the WAFL last weekend.
The 23-year-old hard-nut midfielder has played just 10 games since managing 18 in 2010.
“Jay repeatedly put his body on the line and attacked the contest,” Freo assistant and senior development coach Simon Lloyd said on WAFL Watch of van Berlo’s game for the Falcons.
“The feature of his game over the last couple of weeks is that he has been spreading hard offensively to get used.”
Faulks was another to please the Freo coaching team through his WAFL efforts.
The tall defender was dominant down back in Peel’s upset win over Subiaco.
Lloyd said Faulks’ defensive positioning had been solid all season, but he was also becoming more damaging with the ball in hand.
“From an offensive point of view, Peter has really created an aspect of his game where he is trying to run hard on the rebound, characterised by some strong, long-running efforts,” he said.
Faulks’ teammate at Peel, Jesse Crichton, also managed to find a bit of the ball for the Thunder. He gathered 24 disposals playing as an inside-mid.
The squad of 25 will be cut to a final 22 at 2.30pm (WST) on Friday.
