Nurses run for the pooches of Perth
Adele duKamp’s Suncorp Bank Freo Fun Run team has chosen to run for the RSPCA
St John of God Murdoch nurse Adele duKamp will be battling tired eyelids with fellow colleagues and team members of the ‘Night Stalkers’ when she takes part in the Freo Fun Run on Sunday 11 November.
While she spends her nights saving human lives, duKamp will take part in the 10km run while raising much needed funds for the RSPCA, an associate charity partner of the Fremantle Dockers in 2012.
She was the highest fundraiser in the first week of the Suncorp Bank 8-Week Fundraising Challenge.
“I wanted to support a less main stream charity, one that’s perhaps overseen,” duKamp said.
“I own a rescue dog, Ziggy, who’s turned into a diamond so I’d like to show my support and help other animals live a happy life.”
With an initial goal of $500, she’s already exceeded this and is hoping to continue to raise even more, as she’s done in the past for other charities.
duKamp started running as a personal challenge, and believes it assists with the physical toll of working night shifts.
“My team members and I do a lot of night shifts so it’s important to get out and work on your fitness,” she said.
“It’s great to go in with friends to encourage each other but also have that personal challenge.”
Since she started running two years ago, duKamp has improved her fitness levels and is now aiming to finish the 10km run in less than an hour. She’s just happy being a part of the event.
“It’s fantastic to have these community events. I didn’t know about them until just recently so I’m looking forward to taking part,” she said.
The inaugural Suncorp Bank Freo Fun Run offers two courses - a 4km run/walk and a 10km run/walk, through the historical heart of WA.
