Big in

The last-minute inclusion of Aaron Sandilands was one of the main talking points of the football world after Saturday’s game. While Damien Hardwick and the media can speculate all they like about the champion ruckman’s inclusion, there’s no doubting his worth to the Fremantle Dockers. Sandilands had 18 disposals - 15 of them contested - along with nine clearances and 33 hitouts. Simply put, he was huge.

Lyon sticks to a winning formula

Coming in to Saturday’s game, Trent Cotchin was playing as good as any player in the competition. Ross Lyon stuck with what had already worked in round 11 this year when he sent his best tagger Ryan Crowley to Brett Deledio instead of Cotchin. Deledio had only 14 possessions and fell victim to Crowley for the second time this season.

We do like Mundy’s

It’s official: David Mundy is back. The 2010 Doig Medallist had 32 possessions - 13 of them contested - in a best-on-ground display. After a quiet start to the season because of a pre-season injury that compromised his fitness, Mundy is charging towards the finish line.

Kepler the cult hero

There was no bigger roar at Patersons Stadium than the one Kepler Bradley received for his goal in the final quarter on Saturday. After three behinds, including a miss from 15m out, ‘Kep’ ran into an open goal to blast through the major. The ensuing ‘KEPLER’ chant proved just how popular the enigmatic forward is with the Freo fans.

Heart of a champion

Ross Lyon revealed after the game just how close Matthew Pavlich was to missing Saturday’s game against Richmond. Despite looking very sore and receiving constant treatment on the sidelines during the game, the Freo skipper still booted three majors to remain the leader in the Coleman Medal race on 60 goals. Drew Petrie (55) also booted three, while Jack Riewoldt could only manage two and is now four behind Pavlich on 56.
