Whether it’s ladder leading Sydney Swans or 18th placed Greater Western Sydney, Garrick Ibbotson says Fremantle’s preparation to play remains the same.
The young Giants travel to Perth to face Freo at Patersons Stadium this Sunday on the back of 162 and 119-point defeats to Hawthorn and Adelaide respectively.
But Ibbotson said every AFL side had to be respected regardless of results and ladder positions.
“We don’t buy into easy games,” he said.
“We can’t afford to go into games like this thinking anyone’s an easy beat and that’s exactly what we’re going to do.”
Ibbotson said the thrilling round 6 victory over Gold Coast, which won its first game of the season last weekend, should serve as a reminder that any team can beat another, on its day.
“The Suns gave us a really tough game and we only just got away,” he said.
“We don’t want to have that happen again this week.
“We’re going to prepare as normal, as if we were playing one of the top sides in the competition, and play the way we want to play.”
Ibbotson labelled the Giants as a young, developing group which was working hard under legendary coach Kevin Sheedy.
“Once they start to get a few games into each other they’ll start to improve,” he said.
“They’ve got a great coach in Sheedy, so he’ll be showing them the tricks of the trade.
“For them, it’s an effort thing. They’ll keep going and keep giving 100 per cent, and I think the score will start to swing their way when they start to get a bit more experience in them.
“We’re expecting a tough game no matter what.”
